Bellatrix Press Halloween Blog Hop @Bellatrix_Press #Halloween #witches #amwriting

Magic comes in all shapes and sizes, and so do the people who use it. To celebrate Halloween, four authors got together to interview their magic-using characters and share the responses. And, as always happens when the four of us get together, to make some fun trouble.
That being said, the four of us have decided to break the interview pieces up so you can read them across our blogs. My Interview is with Marling Ellis from The Unlove Spell by Kendra L. Saunders.
Q: Do you remember the first time you used magic? If so, please tell us about it.
Please don’t tell anyone this, especially not my magic tutor Kyran, or anyone at the New York Witch School, but I have never used magic in the traditional sense. Or, well… I don’t think I have. However, I have always had this crazy ability to know if something is going to go on sale soon. The first time it happened to me, I was about 8 years old, and I told my mom not to buy a pair of sparkly pink boots, because they would be on sale the next day. Sure enough? They were. I can also guess a man’s income just by looking at his watch. That has to be a sign of magic too, right?
Q: What is something you wish you could do with magic but haven’t been able to yet?
Make Chris Hemsworth fall in love with me.
Q: What is something you wish you had never done with magic?
I wish I had never accidentally put the unlove spell on myself. It’s a complete bummer to miss out on chances with hot guys, especially ones you meet while on a work trip to Cancun.
Q: Do real witches have broomsticks and/or black cats?
I can’t really have cats, thanks to being crazy allergic to cats. I also don’t really like broomsticks, thanks to being crazy allergic to housecleaning. However, if an actual flying broomstick ever comes onto the market, you’d better bet I’ll own one. It would cut out so much traffic.
Q: If you lost your magical abilities tomorrow, what would you pursue instead?
That would mean the unlove spell was broken, so I’d probably go back to Cancun. And make sure I used those apps that keep you from paying too much for online shopping.
Magic has certain rules. You can’t really make someone fall in love with you, but you can make damn sure they don’t fall in love with anyone else. That is, if you’re any good with magic in the first place.

Marling Ellis is a young witch who accidentally places a spell on herself to prevent her heart from ever belonging to anyone but Viktor Arson, the sexy, aristocratic Russian writer she shared a passionate, but brief, fling with. Marling’s spent the five years since their fling alone, occupying her personal time with the internet and hot chocolate. Viktor, a fae prince, has gone on to become a world-famous writer. Most importantly, he can also still make a killer good cup of coffee, and wear the hell out of leather pants. Vital skills in any relationship.
Now, Marling finds herself caught up in a plot by Kyran, one of her former magic teachers. She ends up in Russia, hunting Viktor down and trying to figure out if she really loves him… or if her feelings are just a product of the unlove spell.
Kendra L. Saunders is a time-and-space traveling fashionista author who writes books about magical, dark-haired men, interviews famous people, and suggests way too many bands to you via whatever social media platform she can get her hands on. She writes with good humor because humor is the best weapon for a girl who can’t learn karate (or ballroom dancing). She’s the author of the Alien Pop Star series, magic realism novel Inanimate Objects, the dark comedy Death and Mr. Right, and the poetry collection Geminis and Past Lives.

I took a few minutes to calm myself in the restroom before I stepped out and walked toward reception. As I rounded the corner and saw Valerie standing in front of my closed office door with her ear pressed against it, I became confused. “What are you doing?” I asked.
She let out a little squeal and turned to face me. With her hand pressed over her heart, she took in a deep breath. “Oh my God,” she whispered before taking in another breath. “He’s in there.” She pointed toward my office door.
“Who?” I asked, wrinkling my eyebrows at her in confusion. This was so unlike Valerie. She was always so calm and collected, but she was seriously rattled at the moment.
“Mr. Kovalsky,” she added in a whisper.
I rarely called him that since he insisted on R.J. But the fact he was waiting in my office first thing in the morning before I even arrived gave me that sick feeling of being followed all over again.
“Um, how long has he been here?”
“Seconds, literally. I just closed your door. He sort of gives me the creeps.” She shivered as she stepped away from my door.
“Yeah,” I said as I reached for the doorknob. “Me too,” I confessed as I turned it and entered.
“Good morning.” His deep, raspy tone did nothing for my nerves. “You look quite lovely this morning,” he added. I forced a smile as I rounded my desk and placed my briefcase on top of it.
I looked down at my clothing and hid my exasperation, or at least I hoped I did. “I’m sorry, R.J., but did we have an appointment this morning I’ve forgotten about?” I chose to dive right in. There was really no reason for small talk.
The guy was becoming more of an issue than a client. I had spent hours upon hours showing him every property I could find, yet he always acted as if it wasn’t quite what he was hoping for. I had a feeling he would never find the right place, which made me think there was more to this man than Margo had told me.
“Not at all,” he said as he lounged back in the chair on the other side of my desk and crossed his ankle over his left knee. He stared back at me with that look that made me want to run away. Valerie’s earlier comment came to mind. Mr. R.J. Kovalsky was definitely a very strange man.
“I was in the area,” he said, and I shifted my gaze back to his. “I was hoping maybe I could change your mind about dinner. Possibly convince you to give a man a shot.”
“A shot at what, exactly?” I knew I shouldn’t say anything, but I was honestly growing quite irritated with his advances. Especially after I had told him I wasn’t interested. I had a job to do, that was it. I wanted nothing from this man, and that commission check I was looking forward to cashing after selling him the biggest property I could find no longer meant as much.
“You are a very beautiful woman, Gabriella.” He smirked, and that nauseous feeling formed a lump at the base of my throat. “I just think you’re missing an opportunity at something that may possibly be great for the both of us.”
I stared back at him, trying to maintain my composure. I was pretty sure if I picked up my desk phone and heaved it at his head, I would be facing battery charges, but it sure sounded great. The idea of it bouncing off his arrogant ass only made me smile in amusement. But of course the dickhead took my smile for something it wasn’t.
“See, you like the idea of it too,” he added with a cocky grin.
“No, actually, I was enjoying the vision of you writhing in pain after my phone collided with your forehead.”
He tilted his head to the side, and the smile fell from his lips.
Oh fuck, I actually did say that out loud.
He stood from the chair, and his quick movements caught me off guard. I too stood up, pushing my own chair back in the process.
“Well, I never took you for the aggressive type, but a little pain keeps things interesting.” He ran his tongue over his bottom lip. “I’ll admit the idea of your cries do make my heart race a bit.”
Forget about my early state of nausea. It had now turned to bile that was rising in my throat. My entire chest burned from it. I suddenly felt trapped as my hands began to shake. I fisted them, trying to hide my obvious panic, but it was too late. His smile grew wider, like scaring me excited him.

The moon has played a significant part in human history, and every culture has it’s representation of a lunar deity. Today, we’ll focus on Arianrhod, the Welsh moon goddess.

Arianrhod’s  name has been translated as silver-wheel, a symbol that represents the ever-turning wheel of the year. She was the goddess of fertility, rebirth and the weaving of cosmic time and fate.

The wheel may also refers to the oar wheel upon which she carried the dead back to her heavenly northern land the Corona Borealis. Here according to some Welsh traditions the dead souls waited for the Goddess and her female attendants to decide their fate before being reincarnated. She is also linked with the moon and North star, living in a realm know as Caer Sidi which means “revolving castle.”

Arianrhod’s symbols include the Silver wheel, weaving implements the full moon and the Corona Borealis, and she can shape-shift into a large wise owl which enables her to see into the depths of the human soul. Her sacred plant is ivy, and her colors are silver and white. Spiders are also associated with her, as she is seen as a weaver of fate.

Arianrhod’s palace, Caer Arianrhod, is connected with a rock formation visible off the coast of northern Gwynedd, an area in Northwest Wales, at low tide. This formation is one of several landmarks that attest to the localization of the events in the Fourth Branch of the Mabinogion in this area.

What a fascinating story behind Arianrhod! So you have any favorite legends about the moon? Share them below. nd don’t forget to visit the Broad Universe Full Moon Blog Hop page and keep on hopping for more chances to win amazing bookish prizes.
